While we work in collaboration with organizations, SOS primarily streamlines the grassroots relief process, making it easier for people to get help where and when they need it most.
Our platform is designed to support both immediate disaster response and the critical rebuild phase. By addressing both urgent needs and long-term recovery, SOS helps communities rebuild more effectively after a disaster.
The Community Platform
Matching
As the only peer-to-peer organization tool of its kind, SOS creates efficiencies in the needs matching process, ensuring resources are accurately directed and wasted donations reduced.
By better organizing volunteers and assigning clear tasks, SOS reduces volunteer churn and improves retention, maximizing the impact of available labor. Users can request resources, offer resources, or sponsor resources, all through our multi-layered map.
Project Management
With real-time visibility into tasks and progress, SOS reduces labor waste through efficient work crew assignments, reducing work duplication and resource mismanagement.
Visualization
The detailed, multi-layered map allows users to visualize resources in relationship to their area. Groups with authentication portal access may create map layers specific to their data needs.
Reporting
The ticketing system reports across all ticket types and actions, allowing communities unobstructed access to the movement of aid and resource allocation within a response area. Reports can then be shared to state or national agencies to request matching grants or funding for additional resources. This sponsorship is only possible with clear, accurate reporting via cross-organizational ticketing adoption.
Security/Privacy
Secure Data Storage
SOS employs industry standard security features, including role-based data access controls, detailed audit logs, and data containment measures. SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA compliance are present at launch, with certifications coming soon.
Personal Privacy
Strict user permissions ensure that sensitive data access is tightly controlled. All sensitive information is securely stored in Supabase, with granular access restrictions to ensure only authorized personnel can. view or modify data. No sensitive data is hosted on WeWeb.
Protected Communication
SOS facilitates private, on-platform communication between users without revealing personal phone numbers, emails, or other identifying information. Personal data exposure risk is reduced while enabling smooth, secure interactions.
Community Resilience & Preparedness
Geology experts warn that, due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, the entire Western North Carolina/Eastern Tennessee disaster area is at increased risk for wildfires and landslides. This risk entails the need for a community resilience and preparedness plan, including a pre-existing organization platform which communicates to all government, non-profit, and community service sectors.
Volunteer Hub Infrastructure
As communities transition from emergency to rebuilding, many volunteer organizations may consolidate into hubs or needs-matching dispatch centers. SOS is a pre-existing digital platform built to manage the unique demands of grassroots disaster response phases.
